Tell your parents you want to be a deejay and they'll give you a lecture that will last the whole day but wait till they hear what some of these big names in the industry get for playing for just a few hours.
Dj Joe Mfalme who is a deejay at Capital FM and the official US embassy deejay Kenya charges upto Kshs. 170,000 for regional and international gigs, between Kshs. 40,000 and 50,000 for club gigs and a minimum of 50,000 for a special occassions such as weddings.
Dj Mo, who is considered the biggest gospel deejay in Kenya who charges from Kshs 100,000 to 150,000 for corparate events, Kshs 70,000 - 100,000 for college and university events. The groove award winning deejay's regional and international gigs go from Kshs. 127,500 to 170,000 and not less than Kshs. 50,000 for special occassions.
Deejay Kalonje also known as George Waweru gets about Kshs 100,000 for parties held by students and a whooping Kshs. 170,000 for international gigs. Kalonje though charges Kshs. 50,000 for events around nairobi.
Dj Hassan, a big name in this industry who is well known for his mad scratches would demand 110,000 for gigs outside Kenya and around 45,000 for student gigs while also charging around 50,000 for gigs around Nairobi.
Kaytrixx the Entertainer who recently started Spincycle Entertainment alongside a couple of other deejays like Dj Exclussive and Dj Mr T is one of Kenya's highest earning deejays.The deejay who is known for his hype especially at his Thursdays weekly event at Changez charges Kshs. 30,000-60,000 for a club show/wedding/house party/small event;Kshs. 50,000-80,000 for a school/campus event around Kenya;Kshs. 60,000-100,000 for a corporate event around Kenya; Ksh. 80,000- 100,000 for big shows around Kenya; Kshs425,000 for an East Africa concert and between 255,000 and 850,000 for an international event.
Despite doing events most of these deejays work for radio stations and tv stations, so you can imagine how much they bag in a month.
